So there’s an understanding between Eric and I that there are the actual words to songs that everyone knows, and then there are the words that I think that I hear and then sing and argue to no avail that they are the correct words (such as: If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hat. (don’t even try to argue with me on these!)) Anyway, today I realized that this lyrical disease I have is hereditary as Bella is showing strong signs of it! She asked me to turn the song on for her that says “God is a thing of bubbles.” Um, what? So we turned on the song ”His love endures forever” and just after they sang “For He is good, He is above all things” she said “See Mom! He is a bubble thing.”

My reply? “Oh yeah, there it is!”

So today Bella asked me to write her friend’s name down on a piece of paper so that she could copy it on to her picture. I wrote it down and she said “You’re kind of like Santa Clause.” Me: “Um, what? Santa? Why?” Bella: “Because you’re writing stuff down.” I just said “Okay” and walked away.

Seriously, why does that make me like Santa? The only reason I could think of was because of the whole “making a list and checking it twice” thing. Hmmm….

So a few of my friends and I are going to have a booth at the Pear Festival!!! I’m going to make like 40 bags and purses and sell them there. Other items for sale will be baby blankets and taggies (small blankets for babies that have ribbons and fun things to play with on them), possibly some pear food items and some candy stuff, etc. Be sure to come on down and support your local friends! And yes, we do have change for $100.

It’s in downtown Kelseyville on Sept 27 from 9-4! www.kelseyvillepearfestival.com

So it’s summer, and we’ve been on the South Beach Diet for a couple of weeks now. I don’t actually like talking about it, but had to share a recipe from it that’s really yummy. We don’t usually eat soup in the summer, especially when it’s 108 outside….but we’re trying to be really good with eating right, so you do whatcha gotta do! Here it is. Hope you try it and like it! This is from the South Beach Diet book, but with some changes that I made.

Black Bean / Chicken Soup

In a saucepan, heat 1 TB extra-virgin olive oil over medium heat. Add 4 thinly sliced green onions, 1 thinly sliced celery stalk, 1 thinly sliced and quartered zucchini, 3 minced garlic cloves, 1/8 tsp cayenne, a pinch of salt and a pinch of freshly ground pepper. Cook, stirring occassionally, until vegetables soften. Add 2 (15-ounce) cans black beans and their liquid, 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes with juices, and 1 1/2 cups lower-sodium chicken or vegetable broth. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, then add 2 fully cooked boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Return to a simmer and cook for another 10 minutes. When serving, you can add some reduced-fat cheddar cheese, cilantro, and a dolup of non-fat sour cream. Freezes well, and reheats well.

I found this pattern for a small bag….check out the description!
